Improvement Highlights

Throughout last week’s sprint, we greatly improved the controls for both keyboard and mouse and controller by making mechanics more intuitive and refined. This change was an important step in the development of Spoopy Space Bois because it reduces the learning curve for new players. In addition, the user interface was overhauled to be easier to understand at a glance. Likewise, this change was vital to reducing confusion for players; most notably, the transition from one health bar to two helped reduce confusion. In addition to adding a dialogue system and improving player guidance, we changed many environmental objects’ sprites to better align with the method of interaction. These changes were made to better guide players into what they should try when navigating throughout the shuttle.

Going Forward

Going forward for our next sprint, we plan on adding more juice to the player models, adding a more encompassing guidance system, and adding enemy variants. In addition, we are planning on adding a larger alien variant to keep the players interested as they progress throughout the ship. Finally, and most notably, we will be overhauling the map to be more effective with our near-final developments of the player movement. By refining our map to lend itself better into natural player movements, the player should have an easier time navigating and more fluid time in combat.
